Development
In delivering a world class tropical harbour city, the Northern Territory Government has committed funding to and commenced progress on a number of new initiatives, and has started planning or given active consideration to remaining initiatives.
The following is an update on ideas and proposals presented under Development during the consultation phase.
- At least 1500 new apartments in the city centre through Saville Pandanas, Evolution, Darwin Waterfont and other developments
- New suburbs of Lyons, Muirhead and Bellamack under construction or due for release – 2300 new lots
- Planning underway for Palmerston East, Weddell and residential infill sites
- Discussions continuing on major new gas-based manufacturing projects, including a helium plant condensate processing facility and expansion of the LNG Plant
- Development of 60 hectare Defence Support Hub near Robertson Barracks commenced
- New shipping links with China and Indonesia established; increased freight distribution through East Arm Port and Darwin Business Park
- Planning underway for upgrades to the Darwin-Palmerston transport corridor
