In delivering a world class tropical harbour city, the Northern Territory Government has committed funding to and commenced progress on a number of new initiatives, and has started planning or given active consideration to remaining initiatives.

The following is an update on ideas and proposals presented under Recreation & Lifestyle during the consultation phase.

 

  • $6 million to the develop new family-friendly parklands at Myilly Point linked by a foreshore promenade from Nurses Walk to Mindil Beach
  • $1 million for landscaping of the entry points to the city where Daly Street and Tiger Brennan Drive intersect with McMinn Street
  • Construction of wave lagoon at the Waterfront underway; earthworks for residential and commercial developments commenced
  • Concept development for pedestrian link between the Waterfront and Mall completed
  • 16 new initiatives, including changes to the NT Planning Scheme, to improve CBD streetscapes and building design
  • Implementation of Darwin City Council’s Streetscape Strategy over the next five years
  • Planning commenced to create ‘ribbons of green’ around Darwin city peninsula
